Soft Hand [Meaning] - MasterTerms.com

Soft Hand

A soft hand in Blackjack refers to a hand that includes an Ace counted as 11, allowing for more flexibility in the total value of the hand.

In Blackjack, a soft hand can be advantageous because it reduces the risk of busting; for instance, if a player has an Ace and a 5, the total can be either 6 or 16. If the player draws another card, they can still adjust their total based on the Ace’s value, maintaining the opportunity to improve the hand without the immediate danger of exceeding 21.

Soft Hand Example

For example, if a player has a soft 17 (Ace and 6), they can choose to hit and draw another card, which gives them a chance to strengthen their hand without the risk of busting.
