Slow Play [Meaning] - MasterTerms.com

Slow Play

Slow Play is a strategy in poker where a player with a strong hand bets weakly or checks to lure opponents into betting more.

This tactic is used to disguise the strength of the player’s hand, encouraging opponents to stay in the game and bet more than they would have if they knew the hand’s true strength. The goal is to maximize the pot by making the opponents feel they have a chance to win.

Slow Play Example

For example, if a player has a full house but only checks or makes minimal bets, it might trick others into betting aggressively, thinking the hand is weak, only for them to lose in the showdown.
