Pocket Pair [Meaning] - MasterTerms.com

Pocket Pair

A pocket pair is when a player is dealt two cards of the same rank in the starting hand.

In poker, a pocket pair is a strong starting hand because both of the player’s cards are of equal rank, increasing the chances of forming a high-value combination such as three of a kind or even four of a kind. Players with pocket pairs often have an advantage because they already possess a matching pair before the community cards are revealed.

Pocket Pair Example

For example, a player is dealt two queens in Texas Hold’em, giving them a pocket pair of queens.
