In a typical poker game, players take turns in a clockwise direction, starting from the player to the left of the big blind. When the action reaches a player who wants to enter the pot, they can either check (if no bets have been made) or make a bet, which is referred to as “opening the action.” By doing this, they establish a minimum amount that other players must call to continue in the hand.
Open Example
For example, if the big blind is $5 and a player decides to open by betting $15, all players must now decide whether to call the $15 bet, raise it, or fold their hands.
