Nut Low [Meaning] - MasterTerms.com

Nut Low

Nut Low refers to the best possible low hand in a lowball poker game, consisting of the lowest-ranking cards available.

In lowball variants of poker, such as Omaha Hi/Lo or Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo, players compete to form the lowest possible hand. The Nut Low is determined by the specific rules of the game and typically consists of the lowest five distinct cards, with aces being low. In many cases, a Nut Low hand would include cards like A-2-3-4-5, which is often referred to as a “wheel.” If two players have the same low hand, the pot is usually split between them.

Nut Low Example

For example, in a game of Omaha Hi/Lo, if Player A holds A-2-3-4-7 and Player B holds A-2-3-5-6, Player A has the Nut Low with A-2-3-4-5, winning the low portion of the pot while Player B does not have the best possible low hand.
