Matchplay [Meaning] - MasterTerms.com

Matchplay

Matchplay refers to a type of competition in sports betting where the outcome is determined based on individual holes or points rather than the total score.

In matchplay, two competitors or teams face off head-to-head, and the winner is determined by who wins the most holes (in golf) or individual segments in a match. The goal is to win more segments than the opponent, with each segment being treated independently. A player can win, lose, or halve a segment, and the final result is based on the accumulation of those results rather than the total score across the entire game or match.

Matchplay Example

For example, in a golf matchplay event, if Player A wins 10 holes and Player B wins 8, Player A would win the match, regardless of their overall stroke count.
