In Five Card Stud, players begin by placing an ante to enter the game. Each player is dealt two cards face down (known as hole cards) and one card face up, creating the initial betting round. After the first round of betting, each player receives another face-up card, followed by a second betting round. This process continues until each player has a total of five cards—three face-up and two face-down. Players then reveal their hands, and the best poker hand wins the pot. Unlike community card games like Texas Hold’em, players rely solely on their own cards to create their hands.
Five Card Stud Example
For example, imagine a game where Player A has the cards 8♠, 9♣ (hole cards), and Q♦ (face-up card). Player B has 10♠, J♣ (hole cards), and K♦ (face-up card). After the final betting round, Player A reveals their hand, which consists of a pair of eights, while Player B reveals a high straight with 10♠, J♣, Q♦, K♦. Player B wins the pot with the stronger hand.
