Field [Meaning] - MasterTerms.com

Field

A Field in sports betting refers to a betting option that encompasses all competitors not specifically named in a betting line. This often applies to events with multiple participants, allowing bettors to wager on any athlete or team not listed as a favorite.

In practice, when you place a bet on the field, you are essentially betting on a group of options rather than a specific choice. For example, in a golf tournament with several well-known players, the sportsbook may offer bets on specific players and also provide a “Field” option. This option allows bettors to win if any player outside of the favorites wins the tournament.

Field Example

For instance, in a golf tournament where the favorites are Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, if you bet on the field and another golfer, say Jordan Spieth, wins the tournament, your bet is successful.
