Exotic [Meaning] - MasterTerms.com

Exotic

Exotic refers to a type of bet in horse racing that involves wagering on multiple outcomes or combinations rather than just a single horse winning.

Exotic bets allow bettors to increase their potential payouts by betting on more complex outcomes, such as selecting the first and second-place finishers in a race (exacta), choosing the top three finishers (trifecta), or even making combinations across multiple races (parlay bets). These bets can offer higher returns than traditional win/place/show bets but are also more challenging to win due to the increased number of factors involved.

Exotic Example

For example, in a horse race, a bettor places an exotic bet on an exacta, choosing horses 4 and 7 to finish in the top two positions. If horse 4 finishes first and horse 7 finishes second, the bettor wins the exotic bet and collects a higher payout than if they had simply bet on one horse to win.
