En Prison [Meaning] - MasterTerms.com

En Prison

En Prison is a rule in European Roulette that allows players to recover half of their bet if the ball lands on zero.

When a player makes an even-money bet (such as red/black, odd/even, or 1-18/19-36) and the ball lands on zero, the En Prison rule comes into play. Instead of losing the entire bet, the player has the option to leave their bet “in prison” for the next spin. If the player wins on the subsequent spin, they reclaim their original bet without any additional winnings. If they lose, they forfeit the original bet entirely.

En Prison Example

For example, suppose a player bets $10 on red, and the ball lands on zero. Instead of losing the $10, they choose to use the En Prison rule. On the next spin, if the ball lands on red, they will receive their $10 back. However, if it lands on black or zero again, they lose the $10.
