Cut [Meaning] - MasterTerms.com

Cut

A cut in blackjack is when the deck is divided into two parts and recombined to randomize the cards.

The dealer, or a player in some cases, divides the deck into two sections after shuffling. This ensures that no one knows the order of the cards, preventing any potential advantage or knowledge about the sequence. The cut is typically performed with a cut card, a brightly colored plastic card, which is inserted into the deck to indicate where the split should occur.

Cut Example

For example, after the dealer finishes shuffling, a player places the cut card in the deck. The dealer separates the deck at the cut card, swapping the positions of the two halves before beginning to deal.
